Footage shared on Twitter shows storefronts near Freedom Plaza in Washington being boarded up on Monday night, January 4.

Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser asked locals to keep away from the downtown area with protests planned on Tuesday and Wednesday, when Congress is set to affirm the result of the Electoral College.

Local reports said the National Guard would be mobilized in the capital, and every police officer would be on duty.

President Donald Trump tweeted that he would be in attendance at the “big protest in DC” on January 6.
