Wayfair Employees in Boston Stage Walkout Over Sales to Detention Centers

Employees of Wayfair, a home goods company based in Boston, Massachusetts, staged a walkout on June 26 over the company’s sale of beds bound for migrant detention centers, local media reported.

More than 500 Wayfair employees signed a petition asking the company to “cease all business” with detention centers holding migrant children along the US-Mexico border, according to the official Wayfair Walkout event page.

BCFS, a government contractor that manages detention centers, placed a $200,000 Wayfair order for bedroom furniture, according to The Boston Globe. The walkout was organized after the company refused to cease doing business with detention centers.

The Boston Globe also reported that Wayfair sent a letter to employees saying it would donate $100,000 to the American Red Cross in an “effort to help those in dire need of basic necessities at the border.”
