One young New Zealand girl had an important public-safety message in the face of the coronavirus pandemic — asking people to stay at home so “we can all go back to McDonald’s again.”

The video, featuring a girl who introduces herself as Portia, was shared to Eastern District Police’s Facebook page on April 6.

The post said that Portia’s father worked for police in the Hawke’s Bay region and she had “an important stay home message for us all.”

In the video, Portia says: “Make sure to stay home, save lives, so that we can all go back to McDonald’s again.”

New Zealand was under “level four” restrictions on April 6 to control the spread of COVID-19, with all residents told to stay home except for those providing essential services. Exceptions applied for necessary shopping and daily exercise.

The country had 1,106 confirmed cases of COVID-19 on April 6, according to news reports. Only one person had died after contracting the virus. Credit: Eastern District Police via Storyful
