The skies over Athens and surrounding areas took on a dark orange hue on April 23, as dust from the Sahara reached the Greek capital and the coast of Attica.

Local Chris Apostolopoulos captured footage showing the scene in the port of Rafina, where he compared the view to a sci-fi movie.

The Greek meteorological service forecast the “strong episode of Saharn dust” to recede on Wednesday, with high concentrations of dust pushing eastward, towards islands in the Aegean Sea. Credit: Chris Apostolopoulos via Storyful
