Haiti’s surge of violence continues with daily shootouts, prompting thousands to leave the capital

More than 53,000 people have fled Haiti’s capital in less than three weeks, the vast majority to escape unrelenting gang violence, according to a new U.N. report released Tuesday. For the second day in a row, police had to fight off gangs attempting to get close to the National Palace, in an area where some displaced families had been camping since they were forced to flee their homes.
