Heavy Snow Complicates Quake Response in Malatya

Local news reported that at least 4,544 people were killed after two powerful earthquakes struck Turkey on Monday, February 6, citing the Disaster and Emergency Management Authority.

Anadolu Agency, a state-run news agency in Turkey, reported that at least 26,721 people were injured and over 8,000 rescued across ten provinces of Turkey.

At least 380,500 victims were given shelter in dormitories of the National Education Ministry and the Youth and Sports Ministry, Anadolu said, citing Vice President Fuat Oktay.

Footage posted online by the TC Van Metropolitan Municipality shows authorities erecting tents and continuing rescue and recovery operations as heavy snow falls in Malatya, a city in east-central Turkey.
