Boris Johnson sets out plan to make UK ‘science superpower'

Boris Johnson revealed plans to maximise the UK’s science and technological ambitions, by opening up a new council and Office for Science and Technology Strategy. The PM will chair the upcoming ‘National Science and Technology Council’ to provide “strategic direction” on the use of science and tech as tools to tackle society’s challenges. Chief Scientific Advisor Sir Patrick Vallance will lead the new Office and will take on the role of the new National Technology Advisor, alongside his current role. The Office will support the new ministerial council and aim to push forward the Government’s research priorities. The government will increase their spending for scientific research to 22 billion pounds.
