McDonnell: I won't be taking over as leader

John McDonnell has said that he will not be taking over as leader of the Labour Party after Jeremy Corbyn said he won't stand at the next general election. The shadow chancellor said "it's time we had a woman as leader" and spoke positively about the new generation of Labour activists. Reflecting on the election loss, Mr McDonnell said his party "just couldn't get through" their Brexit argument, and added he doesn't think Jeremy Corbyn's leadership played any part in the defeat.
