Two K9s were released from care and sent home on Thursday, January 25, after a suspect stabbed both the day before during an arrest attempt in Boise, Idaho, the Ada County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to a report from the sheriff’s office, officers were in the process of taking suspect Jeremiah Gaver into custody during the early hours of Wednesday when the stabbings took place.

As a result, officers fired at Gaver, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

“The five officers involved — four Ada County Sheriff’s Office deputies and one Boise Police officer — are not injured. Both K9 dogs are badly injured and receiving emergency medical care,” the sheriff’s office said on Wednesday.

On Thursday, both K9s, one from the police department and one with the sheriff’s office, were released from care.
