North Korean leader Kim Jong Un oversaw drills involving “newly equipped super-large” multiple-rocket launchers outside Pyongyang, on Monday, March 18, as seen in footage from state broadcaster KCNA.

The drills were designed to test the “actual combat capabilities” of the 600 mm multiple-rocket launcher units and their operators through “unexpected maneuvers”, KCNA said.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) said they detected the firing of several missiles into the East Sea from near Pyongyang early on Monday, and condemned the incident as a “blatant provocation that seriously threatens peace stability on the Korean Peninsula.”
