Qatar gets taste of carnival ahead of Brazil match

STORY: The beer was flowing and fans decked out in Brazil’s green and canary yellow sambaed away under the hot sun as they geared up for the 7 p.m. (1600GMT) kickoff which will determine which of the two teams sits atop Group G after Cameroon and Serbia drew 3-3 earlier in the day.

The party at the Intercontinental Hotel in Doha was complete with carnival performers on stilts, drums and plenty of song and dance.

Brazil star Neymar may be sitting out the match due to injury, but fans here weren’t letting that dampen the mood one bit.

Most fans at the party had tickets to the game and made their way to the seaside 974 Stadium ahead of kickoff, with others planning on watching on the big screens with a cold beer in hand.
