A 19-year-old man from Tunbridge Wells, England, has been jailed after damaging three police cars while trying to escape arrest on drug charges on December 8, 2021, forcing a witness at the scene to flee to safety, according to a police statement.

Footage released on December 2 by Kent Police shows a white Range Rover almost hit a pedestrian while weaving around police vehicles in a parking lot.

The suspect, 19-year-old Kai Austen, was behind the wheel at the time of recording, Kent Police said.

Austen was arrested in September 2021 in connection with several drug supply offenses after his DNA was matched to packages of cannabis seized in Tunbridge Wells.

A phone with details of further offenses was also seized, police added.

Austen was bailed but breached conditions related to a separate arrest and was traced to Hastings Road in Flimwell on December 8, 2021. After spotting patrol officers he attempted to flee, causing damage to three police vehicles in the process.

Officers eventually used their batons to smash the car’s windows and stop the engine.
