A memorial event to “honor law enforcement, first responders, and all those who lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001” was held in Macon, Georgia, on Wednesday, September 11, according to officials in Macon-Bibb County.

Of the 2,977 people killed in the 9/11 attacks, 412 were emergency workers in New York City.

Local firetrucks hoisted a US flag between two ladders, and law enforcement officers and members of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department Honor Guard placed roses and a wreath on a memorial designed to remember the fallen, local media reported.

A Georgia State Patrol helicopter flew overhead as a bagpiper played Amazing Grace, as is traditionally played at police and firefighter funerals.
