At least four Palestinians were arrested amid scuffles with police as ultra-orthodox Jews marking Rosh Hashanah, or the Jewish New Year, entered the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem with armed protection on September 26, Israeli media reported.

The number of Jews entering the compound, which is referred to Jews as the Temple Mount, increased on Sunday and Monday — the days Rosh Hashanah is celebrated. The rising numbers prompting outrage from leaders in the Palestinian community who consider the visits to be an assault on their rights and land, according to Al Jazeera and the Times of Israel.

Anticipating tensions, Israeli authorities issued restraining orders to several from Jewish and Arab activists that prohibited them from the area, according to the Jerusalem Post.
