"As now they are detained under the Immigrations Act because they violated or falsified their visa application coming here to South Africa. They indicated upon applying their visa that they are coming here for training, security training. When we drill deep we find out no, it was not security training, it's about military training. Then the investigation is still continuing."

The men appeared at White River Magistrates court for the first time since their arrest last week after police raided a "secret" military camp. Local media reported that the camp contained drugs and training equipment.

According to authorities, the Libyans entered South Africa in April on study permits to become security guards but instead allegedly received military training.

The magistrate court suspended the matter for further investigation with extra charges pending.
