Lizard CPR: Australian Fire Service Recounts Reptilian Lifesaving Effort

In a tongue-in-cheek February 3 post advising people to get a “CPR action plan in and around the water,” authorities from Gordon Fire Station in New South Wales recounted their efforts to save the life of an unconscious lizard.

“On Saturday one our off-duty firefighters was asked to attend a neighbourhood pool where a drowning had occurred,” the fire team wrote on Facebook. “Upon arriving at the scene a youngster was laying unconscious and not breathing after being found un-responsive in a pool skimmer box by some children.”

This video shows an officer carefully compressing the chest of a lizard lying on his back. According to the post, the lizard soon started breathing on its own.

“Soon after he was rolled back onto his stomach and within half an hour with a little sunshine was back to chasing insects,” the post said. Credit: Fire and Rescue NSW Station 037 Gordon via Storyful
