STORY: Tunisia faces pressure from European nations to stem the influx of migrants into Europe.

The north African country has replaced Libya as the main departure point for people fleeing poverty and conflict across Africa and the Middle East.

Since January, about 16,000 migrants, including 2,224 from Tunisia, arrived in Italy, compared with more than 34,000 in the same period last year, according to Italian interior ministry data.
