Battleship USS New Jersey, the most decorated battleship in the US, shipped out for repairs for the first time in more than 20 years on Thursday, March 21, from the marina in Camden, New Jersey.

Footage released by the City of Camden Government shows the battleship leaving the marina.

“The Battleship NJ is part of the fabric of our nation and the Camden community. We wish her a safe journey to dry dock and look forward to welcoming her back home soon,” the City of Camden Government wrote on Facebook.

On March 27, the battleship will be towed to the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard where it was constructed in the early 1940s and will stay there for dry-docking maintenance for around 60 days, according to the US Naval Institute.

USS New Jersey served in the Second World War, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Cold War, and during the peacekeeping mission in Lebanon after 1983, earning 19 battle stars.

The battleship has been a floating museum since 2001, according to news reports. Credit: City of Camden Government via Storyful
