NASA released stunning full-color images of galaxies and nebulas out deep in Space on July 12, captured by the James Webb Space Telescope.

According to NASA, the images show a reality from billions of years in the past.

“We’re looking back more than 13 billion years," NASA administrator Bill Nelson said at a White House event on July 11. “Light travels at 186,000 miles per second, and that light that you are seeing from one of those little specks, has been traveling for over 13 billion years.”

The images show the “Cosmic Cliffs” in the Carina Nebula, a grouping of five galaxies called Stephan’s Quintet, a star at the center of NGC 3132, a white dwarf star at the center of the Southern Ring Nebula and more, using a near-infrared camera and a mid-infrared instrument to capture near-infrared and mid-infrared light.

NASA released the images in a live event on Tuesday and subsequently on their website. Please see the link under each image for additional information. Credit: NASA via Storyful
