Are crystal gummies the new TikTok snack trend?

Step aside, dessert boards! It’s crystal clear that crystal gummies might be the next sweet candy taking over TikTok. TikToker Jen Dao (@jenhdao) is a California-based chef and self-described foodie who recently shared a beautiful recipe. To make the gelatinous gems, Dao adds water and agar-agar powder (a vegan alternative to gelatin) to a small pot and lets it sit for five minutes. Next, she gives the mixture a whisk, then cooks it over medium heat before mixing in sugar, followed by lychee extract. She pours the mixture into a greased baking dish, and then adds food coloring, using a toothpick to make swirls and spread out the color. Once decorated, she refrigerates the gummy mixture for two hours before transferring it from the baking dish to a cutting board lined with parchment paper. Finally, Dao carves the gummy slab into jagged crystal shapes before letting them sit at room temperature for two to three days to crystallize fully. The finished product is an array of aqua-colored crystal gummies with a crunchy exterior and soft interior that look like they emerged from the bottom of the ocean
