Patients who suffer from chronic pain and struggle to get their medications are reacting to new federal opioid prescription guidelines. Patients suffering from chronic pain anonymously told the 11 News I-Team that doctors and pharmacies reduced their medications. Last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention updated its guidelines on prescribing opioids to handle pain. The CDC expanded its guidelines, saying patients should receive compassionate, safe and effective pain care to help improve their quality of life. The CDC still calls for reviewing the benefits and risks of long-term opioid use and tapering off the drugs.
