A United States Marine Corps veteran, injured in the line of duty, received a hero's welcome from dozens of family members, friends and supporters at the Sacramento International Airport on Friday. Sergeant Tyler Vargas-Andrews arrived home after spending the past several months undergoing treatment and rehabilitation at Walter Reed Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. Vargas-Andrews was one of 18 service members wounded in the Aug. 26, 2021 suicide bombing attack at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. Thirteen service members were killed in that blast, among them was 23-year-old Sgt. Nicole Gee from Roseville.
