Maryland gets new area code starting June 14

A new area code is coming to parts of Maryland. Starting June 14, new customers in the 240/301 area code territory may be assigned the 227 area code. The 227 area code territory will be the same as the land area of the 240 and 301 area codes. It would be assigned if users request a new service or get an additional line; however, current telephone numbers will not change. The 240, 301 and 227 area codes service parts or all of Aspen Hill, Bethesda, Bowie, Frederick, Gaithersburg, Germantown, Hagerstown, Potomac, Silver Spring, Waldorf and Wheaton areas.
