Oysters planted in river for healthier water quality, habitat

Operation Build-a-Reef planted 25 million juvenile oysters in the Severn River near Annapolis. They are expected to improve water quality and provide a healthy habitat for marine species, such as blue crab and white perch. The oyster larvae comes from a University of Maryland hatchery in Cambridge. The goal is to saturate oyster sanctuary areas to create a critical mass for reproduction.
