Sydney Opera House reveals renovated Concert Hall

STORY: The upgrade of the Concert Hall, the largest performance space of the Sydney Opera House, is the final project of a 10-year renewal project of works at the World Heritage listed venue - totalling almost $AUD300 million (204 million USD). It was completed ahead of the Sydney Opera House's 50th anniversary in 2023.

The facelift includes 18 new acoustic reflectors or 'petals' and diffusion panels that will enhance sound quality, which has been historically criticised by performers and audience alike.

"All too often the experience has fallen short of expectations and unmet expectations are not something that we want at the Opera House," Sydney Opera House CEO Louise Herron said. "But with this upgrade, we have corrected that imbalance."

The Sydney Symphony Orchestra will hold the first performance in the renovated Hall on Wednesday.
