STORY: Eyewitness footage showed strong currents flowing down a sloped street, with local authorities recording over 5.8 inches of rainfall in a 24-hour period over September 4–5.

Reuters was able to confirm the location of the footage, with nearby buildings and signage matching file images, satellite maps and street views of the area. Reuters was not able to independently confirm the date the videos were filmed.

The typhoon lost strength and became a tropical storm after its landfall around 5 a.m. (2100 GMT on September 4), the national forecaster reported. It was last reported to be moving over southern Guangdong province, and forecasters expect it to continue to weaken.
