Working dogs ward away seagulls in Sydney

Location: Sydney, Australia

These dogs patrol for an airborne enemy

Seagulls swoop down to snatch away food

The dogs protect diners at Sydney Opera House

(SOUNDBITE) (English) GENERAL MANAGER OF OPERA KITCHEN, SAMMY MCPHERSON, SAYING:"It's been a game-changer you could say in hospitality. We're not having to chase after birds and the (reduction in) amount of food replacement, broken glasses, broken plates, you know, it's been absolutely amazing."

The dogs are trained to focus only on seagulls

Businesses say there has been a reduction in aerial attacks

(SOUNDBITE) (English) DOG HANDLER FROM 'MAD DOGS AND ENGLISHMEN', CARLA SHOOBERT, SAYING:"We do use your dogs that already have a temperament that's more inclined to chase things I suppose. So like your working breeds like your Kelpies and your cattle dogs and stuff. So they've already naturally got that instinct."

12-13 dogs rotate out every day with double shifts on weekends
