NASA’s Perseverance rover, stationed on Mars since February 2021, captured the silhouette of Phobos, one of the two Martian moons, as it passed in front of the Sun on September 2024 looking like the pupil of a googly eye.

NASA said that Perseverance had captured several Phobos transits since its landing at Mars’ Jezero Crater.

With Phobos circling the red planet every 7.6 hours, this type of event is much more common on Mars, compared to eclipses on Earth, space.com said. Credit: JPL Raw via Storyful
