Japanese soccer fans took to the streets of Tokyo on December 2, to celebrate the country’s surprise 2-1 victory over Spain at the World Cup.

The victory ensured Japan topped Group E, eliminating four-time winners Germany in the process.

The match wasn’t without controversy, however, with Japan’s winning goal the subject of much debate after the ball appeared to leave the field of play seconds before the second goal. VAR analysis concluded not all the ball had crossed the line, and the goal stood.
