Numerous vessels gathered on the River Mersey in Liverpool on Wednesday afternoon, September 14, to perform a “maritime tribute” to Queen Elizabeth II, who died last week.

The Liverpool City Council said about 20 working vessels on the river gathered at 2 pm near the city’s docks in front of the Three Graces – the Royal Liver Building, the Cunard Building, and the Port of Liverpool Building – to blow their horns and whistles in tribute to the late monarch.

Among the vessels were pilot launch boats, RNLI Lifeboats, Mersey Ferries, the Disney Magic cruise ship that arrived in Liverpool earlier that day, and river tugs spraying water from their fire cannons. Credit: Liverpool City Council via Storyful
