An elephant calf was out exploring its enclosure at Reid Park Zoo in Tucson, Arizona, on Saturday, March 9, just one day after being born to Semba, whom the zoo describes as its “African elephant matriarch.”

Footage posted on the zoo’s social media channels shows the calf exploring the area alongside the other four members of the herd: its mother Semba, its big sisters Nandi and Penzi, and allomother Lungile.

The 265-pound calf, whose sex had not yet been determined, was born on Friday morning at 3:31 am, according to zoo. “Semba and the calf are both doing well, and will spend some time behind the scenes in the coming days to bond,” they said. Credit: Reid Park Zoo via Storyful
