A detained protester was assaulted in the back of a police vehicle as police were present, in Malé, the capital of the Maldives. This video was described as being filmed early on February 24, during protests against the ongoing state of emergency.

Aminath Nadira, who helped Storyful obtain the video of the beating, recorded a video that she says shows the same man being arrested at a protest earlier that day. The same hairstyle and ripped blue t-shirt can be seen in both videos. Nadira shared photos with Storyful that she said were taken by the man’s wife to document his wounds after he was released by police at 3:10 in the morning, local time.

The video shows the arrested protester in the back of a police trailer as at least six policemen in riot gear stand by. Some of the police appear to be talking to men wearing civilian clothes. The two men in plainclothes are allowed onto the trailer where they immediately grab the detainee. The police then intervene and the two men let the detainee go, though they are allowed to stay on the trailer and talk with the detainee. Credit: See source information. via Storyful
