The West Kiskatinaw River wildfire continued to exhibit “extreme fire behavior” on Thursday, June 8, as it raged around 6.2 miles (10 km) east of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, local authorities said.

Footage posted on Facebook by the British Columbia Wildfire Service shows an “intense and volatile” blaze moving across the landscape under low-to-moderate winds.

Fire activity was expected to increase further as easterly winds increased, with easterly winds continuing to restrict ground and aerial suppression, before a shift to westerly winds on Saturday, the British Columbia Wildfire Service said.
