Dwarf giraffes spotted in Africa

Dwarf giraffes spotted in Africa

Location: Windhoek, Namibia

Scientists have discovered two giraffe dwarves:

An 8.5-foot giraffe in Namibia

and a 9-foot 3-inch giraffe in Uganda

Most giraffes grow to 15-20 feet

(SOUNDBITE) (English) CO-FOUNDER, GIRAFFE CONSERVATION FOUNDATION, JULIAN FENNESSY, SAYING:"It looks like a very young, one year old giraffe. So, yes, we were definitely all very surprised to see it and we went about doing a little bit of research to figure out what was going on. Unfortunately we'd probably need to do some genetic work, if we want to understand more but we can definitely tell that it is a dwarf giraffe."

Both giraffes have the standard long necks

but short, stumpy legs
