Hurricane Dorian made landfall along North Carolina’s Outer Banks on Friday, September 6, bringing what officials described as “catastrophic flooding” and prompting air evacuations in some areas.

The National Weather Service issued a flash-flood emergency for several areas within North Carolina’s Outer Banks.

The National Hurricane Center said on Friday morning that floodwater on Hatteras Island, northeast of Ocracoke Island, was more than five feet high.

The Hyde County Sheriff’s Office said it sent first responders to Ocracoke Island after reports of “catastrophic flooding” in the area.

Footage shared by Maria Holt to the Moonraker Tea Shop Facebook page shows water inundating an Ocracoke street on Friday. Holt told Storyful they were without power on Friday afternoon and the tea shop had up to 5 inches of water in it. Holt said they were waiting for the floodwaters to subside to fully assess the damage. Credit: Moonraker Tea Shop via Storyful
