One of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s hurricane hunter planes flew through the eye of Hurricane Dorian as the Category 5 storm pummeled the Bahamas on September 1.

The National Hurricane Center put out a series of warnings about catastrophic wind conditions and life-threatening storm surges on Grand Bahama Island overnight and into September 2. It said hurricane conditions were “expected within the Hurricane Warning area in Florida” by late Monday, or Tuesday, September 3.
