Lava Fountains Erupt at Kilauea's Halema'uma'u Crater

Lava fountains were seen erupting in the southern part of the lava lake at Kilauea’s summit on Hawaii’s Big Island on October 2, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) said.

This video was posted to Twitter by USGS, who said it shows lava fountains erupting through the southern part of the lava lake in Halema’uma’u.

According to USGS, sustained fountain heights from the fissure seen in this footage ranged from “about 5-10 m (16-33 ft) with occasional higher bursts of spatter.” Credit: USGS Volcanoes via Storyful
