Loggerhead sea turtles released into Australia’s sea

STORY: Local media said the nest of 130 eggs were excavated from Shelly Beach on March 29 after temperatures plunged, and brought to Taronga Zoo’s Wildlife Hospital for incubation as a team monitored their progress.

Taronga Zoo Sydney said in a social media post that “being able to release them back into the wild was an enormous group effort” that saw several wildlife and animal rescue organizations team up to help release the hatchlings.

Loggerhead turtles inhabit the warmer parts of world oceans and are present in the Mediterranean Sea, but they have mainly nested in a handful of places such as Australia, Florida, Cape Verde, Oman, and Mozambique. They tend to return to their birthplace to lay eggs every few years.
