There were new reports of looting in Johannesburg, Durban, and elsewhere around South Africa on July 13, as unrest continued in the wake of former President Jacob Zuma’s jailing.

Zuma was sentenced to 15 months in prison for contempt of court amid corruption allegations, prompting days of violence and looting that have seen at least 45 people die, hundreds arrested, and numerous retail outlets ransacked.

Thabiso Goba from the news outlet The Witness recorded this footage on July 13, showing the Pinecrest Centre in the Durban suburb of Pinetown. His footage shows damaged stores, flooding, and rubbish and debris strewn around the mall.

He also spoke to business owners whose properties had been looted and damaged the previous day. Credit: Thabiso Goba/The Witness via Storyful
