Luxury Yacht of Sanctioned Russian Oligarch Seized by Fiji at Request of United States

A luxury yacht of sanctioned Russian oligarch Suleiman Kerimov was seized in Fiji by local law enforcement at the request of the United States, the Department of Justice said.

Sanctions that facilitated the yacht’s seizure were implemented in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in late February.

“The U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control designated Kerimov as part of a group of Russian oligarchs who profit from the Russian government through corruption and its malign activity around the globe, including the occupation of Crimea,” a statement from the Department of Justice read.
