Protesters drove a motorcade of auto-rickshaws and motorbikes through the island of Thulhaadhoo, in the northern Maldives, on February 24, to protest the government’s extension of a state of emergency.

The parliament of the Maldives approved the extension on February 20, but failed to make constitutionally required quorum of 43 legislators, prompting the nation’s prosecutor general to say that the act was unconstitutional, according to reports cited by Reuters.

A former councilor of the island was injured at a rally on Malé on February 16 and left for India on February 24, according to Maldive’s news site Raajje MV. Credit: Ahmed Chucks via Storyful
