Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison attended a ceremony at a Sri Lankan buddhist temple in Berwick, Victoria, on Monday, April 22, before addressing media regarding the attacks on churches and hotels in Sri Lanka the day before.

Morrison said the most recent reports indicated 207 lives had been claimed and 469 were injured. He said he was aware of one Australian that had been injured who was receiving consular assistance.

Before the press conference, Morrison had participated in a minute’s silence at the Berwick Temple.

“I’m pleased that we were able to be here with the Sri Lankan community here in Berwick,” he said to media. “Full of hope, full of grace, full of community, and that is the right way to respond the the acts of hate and violence that we’ve seen in Sri Lanka.”

He said one of Sri Lanka’s great strengths was that it pulled together people from many different faiths and cultures. He said Australia would offer assistance and support in any way they could.
