Roads inundated as torrential rains batter Japan

In video shared with Reuters, rescue staff in Numazu city were seen wading through thigh-deep water pulling a rubber boat to help people.

Elsewhere in the prefecture, landslides triggered by the heavy rains left at least 20 people missing in Atami, public broadcaster NHK said.

The rainfall deluging the city since Friday has already exceeded the average July levels for both Shizuoka prefecture , where Atami is located, and neighboring Kanagawa prefecture, according to NHK.
