BC Hydro reported “substantial damage” to British Columbia’s power infrastructure and highways between Spences Bridge and Merritt.

At least 75 power poles were washed away in the Highway 8 corridor between the two towns, BC Hydro said. The power company said most locations were unable to be accessed by road and would require the construction of access routes.

An atmospheric river brought significant flooding to the province, which prompted the declaration of a provincial state of emergency on November 17.
