Democrats from the Texas House of Representatives broke out in a civil rights song as their press conference in Washington came to a close on Tuesday, July 13.

Marc Veasey, a US representative serving Texas’s 33rd congressional district, livestreamed this video of the press conference on Capitol Hill on Tuesday morning. The footage shows several lawmakers singing the protest mainstay We Shall Overcome.

More than 50 lawmakers fled Texas on Monday and headed to the nation’s capital in an attempt to block a Republican-backed voting bill in their state.

According to local reports, the move would deny Republicans the quorum needed to pass new voting restrictions, which aim to “rein in” drive-thru and 24-hour voting, as well as tighten the rules on mail-in voting.
