Zoo helps animals during extreme summer heat

STORY: The Rajiv Gandhi Zoological Park and Wildlife Research Center has installed fans, coolers, foggers and sprinklers to provide relief to its animals.

Elephants were seen having a jovial time as zoo workers sprinkled cold water on them.

"We have arranged cold water sprinklers for the herbivore animals who live in the exhibition area," said Zoo Director Rajkumar Jadhav.

Zoo animals are the worst affected by a change in temperature as they have been displaced from their natural habitats and kept in places where the temperatures are not favorable to their bodies. Located in the tropics, most of India witnesses a very hot summer and a largely temperate winter.
