STORY: Footage of Santa Catarina’s firefighters from a helicopter showed locals being pulled to safety from roofs, as they waited to be rescued.

Aerial views showed swathes of the city submerged under muddy water as the rain persisted on Thursday.

Over 880 people have been evacuated.
