STORY: This boat-shaped lookout is a colorful new addition to the Andean skyline

'The Cruiser of the Andes' is a 'cholet', a trend of vibrant, kitsch buildings in the city

A mash-up of 'chola', referring to indigenous women and 'chalet', a mountain home in the Alps

The Cruiser has full-fledged ballrooms, a hotel and a restaurant

Like other cholets the ostentatious designs include elements of the Andes' Indigenous people

It is designed by renowned indigenous architect Freddy Mamani

"So what we want to promote through this architecture is tourism, to focus on promoting the city of El Alto through architecture, but architecture with identity, with meaning, with its own ancestral roots, focusing on the future.”

The cholet's owner says it is open to public and people from all over the world
