Apple to move more production to India: Nikkei

STORY: Apple could be moving more production to India.

Japan’s Nikkei newspaper says the tech giant has asked suppliers to start making some AirPods and Beats headphones in the country.

Foxconn reportedly hopes to make both products there in due course.

The Nikkei says rival assembler Luxshare also plans to help make AirPods in India.

Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters’ requests for comment on the report.

However, it has already been shifting some iPhone production from China to other countries.

Last week it said it would start making the latest model - the iPhone 14 - in India.

Apple has been moving production amid simmering tensions between Washington and Beijing, and after disruption due to China’s strict health crisis lockdowns.

Other countries including Mexico and Vietnam are also becoming increasingly important to the big contract manufacturers that supply American brands.
