STORY: Workers at Apple stores in France began a nationwide strike on Friday (September 22).

They're demonstrating over pay and working conditions.

About 30 staff picketed outside a store in central Paris.

"What we were promised is not even up to inflation. So we think that our personal lives are impacted by all this and we would all like to be able to live from our work with dignity. We don't ask for extraordinary things, but we just want to live properly."

Apple unions have asked for a 7% wage rise to compensate for inflation, and they want an end to a months-long hiring freeze.

Union officials said management didn't want to offer more than a 4.5% hike. Apple declined to comment.

Friday's action was designed to coincide with the launch of the iPhone 15.

"The goal is not at all to block iPhone (15) sales, the goal is really to bring the spotlight on this situation."

It's not just in France where workers have taken action.

Staff at an Apple store in Barcelona were also due to join their colleagues to protest about working conditions.

The French strike is the latest headache for the tech giant in the country.

Apple was forced to stop selling its iPhone 12 model earlier this month after French authorities said tests found breaches of radiation exposure limits.

Apple disputes the findings of the French watchdog.
